Retrospective Analysis of Patients Diagnosed with Otitis Clinically in Our Clinic

INTRODUCTION: The aim of our study is to examine the patients retrospectively who have had "Otitis" diagnosis; and to make the classification of this disease and the evaluation of demographics of the patients.
METHODS: This study was carried out at the Ear Nose Throat Clinic between January 2007 and November 2016. The patients who were diagnosed with "Otitis" included the study, and the patients’ files were reviewed retrospectively from the hospital's archive and electronic records. Patients' age, gender, otitis type (Acute suppurative / nonsuppurative otitis media, acute / chronic serous otitis media, chronic suppurative/nonsuppurative otitis media, external otitis) were recorded.
RESULTS: Of the 24206 patients who were diagnosed with Otitis, 13064 were female (54%), 11142 were male (46%), with a mean age of 24.2 (0-92). There were acute otitis media (AOM) in 11526 (47.6%) of these patients. Non-suppurative AOM was found in 7264 patients (63%) and suppurative AOM was detected in 4262 patients (37%). There were chronic otitis media (COM) in 3023 (12.5%) of patients with otitis. 2795 (92.5%) of these patients were diagnosed as suppurative COM, and 228 (7.5%) were found as non-suppurative COM. Serous otitis media (SOM) was present in 4061 (16.8%) of patients with otitis. Acute SOM in 1355 patients (33.4%), chronic SOM in 2706 patients (66.6%), was detected. There were external otitis in 5596 (23.1%) of patients with otitis.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: In conclusion,otitis is more frequent in childhood group,but also it can be seen in all age groups.Insufficient diagnosis and inadequate treatment of otitis is associated with significant morbidity and mortality.

Kliniğimizdeki Otit Tanılı Hastaların Geriye Dönük Klinik Değerlendirilmesi

GİRİŞ ve AMAÇ: Çalışmamızın amacı, “Otit” tanısı almış hastaların retrospektif olarak incelenmesi; sınıflandırma, demografik özelliklerin değerlendirilmesidir.
YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: Çalışmamıza Kulak Burun Boğaz Kliniği’mizde Ocak 2007 ile Kasım 2016 tarihleri arasında “Otit” tanısı almış hastalara ait veriler, hastane arşivinde yer alan hasta dosyalarından ve elektronik kayıtlardan sağlanarak retrospektif olarak incelendi. Hastaların yaşı, cinsiyeti, otit tipi (akut süpüratif/non-süpüratif otitis media, akut/kronik seröz otitis media, kronik süpüratif/non-süpüratif otitis media, eksternal otit) kaydedildi.
BULGULAR: Otit tanısı alan 24206 hastanın 13064’ü kadın (%54), 11142’si erkek (%46) yaş ortalaması 24.2 (0-92) idi. Bu hastaların 11526’sında (%47.6) akut otitis media (AOM) vardı. AOM tanısı alan hastaların 7264’ünde (%63) non-süpüratif AOM, 4262’sinde (%37) süpüratif AOM saptandı. Otit tanısı alan hastaların 3023’ünde (%12.5) kronik otitis media (KOM) vardı. KOM tanısı alan hastaların 2795’inde (% 92.5) süpüratif KOM, 228’inde (%7.5) non-süpüratif KOM saptandı. Otit tanısı alan hastaların 4061’inde (%16.8) seröz otitis media (SOM) vardı. SOM tanısı alan hastaların 1355’inde (%33.4) akut SOM, 2706’sında (%66.6) kronik SOM saptandı. Otit tanısı alan hastaların 5596’sında (%23.1) eksternal otit vardı.
TARTIŞMA ve SONUÇ: Sonuç olarak, otitler çocuk yaş grubunda daha sık olmakla beraber her yaşta görülebilmektedir. Otitlerin tanı eksikliği ve yetersiz tedavisi önemli morbidite ve mortaliteye neden olabilir.
