Early Functional and Radiological Results of Patients Undergoing Cementless Total Hip Arthroplasty

INTRODUCTION: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the radiological and functional results of cementless total hip arthroplasties (CTHA) in patients with coxarthrosis.
METHODS: The files of 23 patients (17 female, 6 male) who underwent CTHA between 1991 and 1994 were retrospectively reviewed. The mean follow-up period of the patients was 13.6 ± 5.27 (12-29 months) months. The mean age of the patients was 45.5 ± 17.43 (19-70 years) years. Preoperative and postoperative functional scores of the patients were evaluated according to the Merle d’Aubigne-Postel system modified by Charnley. Radiological evaluation was made according to anteroposterior and lateral radiographs taken in the postoperative period.
RESULTS: When the preoperative and postoperative hip scores of the patients were compared, a statistically significant improvement was achieved in terms of pain status, walking function and hip mobility (p<0.05). According to preoperative hip scores, 22 hips (88%) were bad and 3 hips (12%) were medium; and according to postoperative hip scores, 1 hip (4%) was bad, 1 hip (4%) was medium, 16 hips (64%) were good, and 7 hips ( 28%) were perfect.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: CTHA is an effective surgical treatment method in the treatment of coxarthrosis because of increasing the walking and hip mobility scores of the patients and decreasing the pain scores.

Sementsiz Total Kalça Artroplastisi Uygulanan Hastaların Erken Dönem Fonksiyonel ve Radyolojik Sonuçları

GİRİŞ ve AMAÇ: Bu çalışmada koksartroz hastalarında uygulanan sementsiz total kalça artroplastilerinin (STKA) radyolojik ve fonksiyonel sonuçlarını değerlendirmeyi amaçladık.
YÖNTEM ve GEREÇLER: 1991-1994 yılları arasında STKA uygulanan 23 hastanın (17 kadın, 6 erkek) dosyaları retrospektif olarak tarandı. Hastaların ortalama takip süresi 13,6 ± 5,27 (12-29 ay) aydır. Hastaların yaş ortalaması 45,5 ± 17,43 (19-70 yıl) yıldır. Hastaların ameliyat öncesi ve ameliyat sonrası fonksiyonel skorları Charnley’in modifiye ettiği Merle d’Aubigne-Postel sistemine göre değerlendirildi. Radyolojik değerlendirme postoperatif dönemde alınan anteroposterior ve lateral grafilere göre yapıldı.
BULGULAR: Hastaların preoperatif ve postoperatif dönemdeki kalça skorları karşılaştırıldığında ağrı durumu, yürüme fonksiyonu ve kalça mobilitesi açısından istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir iyileşme sağlandı (p<0,05). Sonuç değerlendirmesine göre ameliyat öncesi 22 kalça (%88) kötü, 3 kalça (%12) orta iken son kontrollerinde 1 kalça (%4) kötü, 1 kalça (%4) orta, 16 kalça (%64) iyi ve 7 kalça (%28) mükemmel olarak saptandı.
TARTIŞMA ve SONUÇ: STKA, koksartroz tedavisinde hastaların yürüme ve kalça mobilite skorlarını artırırken, ağrı skorlarını azaltan etkili bir cerrahi tedavi yöntemidir.
